Craftsmanship Spirit

Handcrafted by the Japanese workshop

The entire production process involves multiple stages, with each stage handled by a highly skilled artisan. Each artisan focuses on their area of expertise, contributing their craftsmanship to the creation of the product.

Back to Edo Era

Edo Kiriko(江戸切子) is a traditional Japanese glass-cutting craft, celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship and intricate designs. Originating during the Edo period of Japan, around 1834, Edo Kiriko has a history of nearly two centuries. It stands as a remarkable testament to Japan's cultural heritage and the artisans' dedication to perfection.

The Cultural Significance of Edo Kiriko

Edo Kiriko is not merely a craft; it is a symbol of Japanese culture. It embodies the aesthetics of the Edo period while integrating modern techniques, reflecting the "artisan spirit" and the unwavering pursuit of perfection by Japanese craftsmen.

Today, Edo Kiriko has transcended Japan's borders, becoming a beloved treasure among craft enthusiasts worldwide.

Whether used as everyday tableware or cherished as a precious gift, Edo Kiriko showcases the unique charm of Japanese culture.

Edo Kiriko Production Process

1. Marking (割り出し)
Mark the cutting coordinates on the surface of the glass using guide lines.

2. Rough Cutting (荒摺)
Establish the basic design and outline through initial rough cutting.

3. Detail Cutting (三番)
Focus on refining and detailing the design through precise cutting.

4. Stone Smoothing (石掛け)
Use a stone and water to smooth the cut surface for a polished base.

5. Grinding (研磨)
Polish the glass to achieve a smooth and glossy finish using a grinding machine with water.

6. Polishing (磨き)
Perform the final polishing using a fiber wheel and cerium oxide for a brilliant shine.
